The Process
Before it was gold, every form had another life.
1 · Find
We do not look for a pretty flower. We look for a form that forces us to get closer. It may be a vein, an edge, a division, a surface, a shell or a structure difficult to explain at first sight.
2 · Look closer
The selection begins with a question: what does this form contain? Sometimes we discover an answer to the territory. Other times, an extraordinary organization of space. And sometimes, simply, a surface we still cannot name.
3 · Preserve
From the real natural element we create a mold that preserves relief, texture, veins, folds and irregularities. We do not draw the form. We work from a surface that already existed.
4 · Change matter
The imprint is transformed into brass and receives an 18-karat gold plating. The matter changes. The identity of the form remains visible.
Coralia · another way of observing
Coralia and Coralia II are not born from direct molds of coral. They are hand-carved in beeswax studying ramifications, voids and volumes of coral architectures.
